Tablets provide a set portion, while powder is measured according to its instructions. That distinction does not make one format cheaper or more suitable for every household. The dishwasher, selected programme and detergent label belong in the same decision.
Bosch's guidance distinguishes dishwasher detergent from washing-up liquid, which should not be used in the machine. Consult the manual for your specific model to find the permitted formats and relevant settings. Advice for another dishwasher should not be transferred without checking.
Describe the normal wash
Record the programmes usually selected and the loads that go with them. A household running the same full cycle regularly may assess convenience differently from one with changing needs. Do not turn that observation into an invented dosing rule: the product and appliance instructions remain the reference.
Powder benefits from a suitable, readable measuring method. With tablets, consider whether the packaging and storage arrangement allow straightforward handling with dry hands. Follow the label for individual wrapping, soluble films and any other packaging instructions. Do not open or split something merely because it appears to offer a saving.
Relate the pack to washes
For tablets, the price per tablet is a starting comparison. Powder also requires the specified amount per application. Compare the same cleaning task and include any necessary supporting products. Whether separate salt or rinse aid is needed depends on the manual, settings and product information rather than a universal money-saving rule.
Avoid judging the purchase only by the number of functions printed on the pack. Ask which features are relevant to the appliance and routine. A longer list on the packaging is not itself a calculation of actual cost.
Store and replace consistently
Choose a suitable dry storage location according to the label and a quantity that remains manageable there. A large pack is inconvenient if its closure cannot be used properly or removing a portion is difficult.
When changing products, begin with a manageable quantity and observe results under the specified conditions. Changing detergent, programme and several settings at once makes any difference harder to interpret. If problems occur, the appliance's troubleshooting guidance is a better starting point than adding more products at random.
